Hanan Selman Hessan and Ahmed Mohammed Abbas 563 Abstract Immune status was examined after tonsillectomy operations in 30 children with recurrent acute tonsillitis, their ages ranged between 3-10 years, were clinically diagnosed by ENT surgeon at AlHilla General Teaching Hospital and 10 apparently healthy children were included as a control in the study which lasted from February to May 2011 .Immunological parameters test were done directly postoperative by taking venous blood from the patients and control to determine the immunoglobulins of IgM, IgG, IgA, complement proteins C3 and C4 level in addition to Creactive protein test were done as indicators of inflammation. It was shown that the immunological assays after tonsillectomy revealed positive changes: a significant increases in IgM and IgA levels in serum of patients in comparison to control although were still in normal reference values but serum IgG level and complement proteins C3 and C4 level were normal in addition to the results of CRP in patients giving positive results in comparison to controls. Introduction he tonsils are two small glands found at the back of throat behind the tongue. It is thought that they act as a barrier against infection in children whose immune system is still developing [1]. Adenoids and tonsils are anatomically located at the entrance of the respiratory and digestive tracts and in fact are the body’s first line of contact with various pathogens present in food and air [2]. The tonsils are part of secondary lymphatic system in which B lymphocytes are predominant and the most important components of the immune system therefore the cellular and humoral responses depended upon their activities [3]. Tonsillitis is an inflammatory condition of the tonsils due to infection by bacteria, viruses, allergies and respiratory problems. Tonsillitis usually begins with a sudden T M J B Determination of Serum Immunological Parameters in Children with Recurrent Acute Tonsillitis after Tonsillectomy

Comparative investigation of the culture of palatine tonsils by superficial and deep methods and investigation of microbial resistance in frequent tonsillitis patients referred for tonsillectomy

Introduction: The tonsils are part of the immune system and tonsillar infection is one of the most common causes of diseases, especially in children. Tonsillitis sometimes does not respond to empirical treatment and the presentation of recurrent tonsillitis eventually leads to tonsillectomy. The aim of this study was to determine and compare palatal tonsil culture by superficial and deep method...

Effects of Adenotonsillectomy on Serum Levels of IGF-1 and IGFBP-3 and Growth Indices in Children with Adenotonsillar Hypertrophy or Recurrent Tonsillitis

Introduction: Adenotonsillar hypertrophy (ATH) may present with growth retardation. Insulin-like growth factor 1 (IGF-1) mediates the anabolic effects of growth hormone (GH) on tissues. Most of the circulating IGF-1 molecules are bound to insulin-like growth factor-binding protein 3 (IGFBP-3). IGF-1 and IGFBP-3 serum levels reflect the levels of daily mean serum GH and are used as indices for e...
